WINGS (Wellness Information Network for Graduate Students)

WINGS (Wellness Information Network for Graduate Students) is a graduate student-led program predicated on the belief that health and wellness are vital foundations for student academic success. WINGS is supported by the School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) Dean’s Office, with additional support from the Graduate Life Office.

WINGS objectives are to share information with H&S doctoral students to:

  • reinforce the importance of well-being and wellness
  • promote campus wellness resources
  • reduce stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health by normalizing stress, the need for coping skills, and help-seeking

Doctoral students in the School of Humanities and Sciences interested in a professional development opportunity in the area of wellness may apply to be a “WINGer” for their program. Typically, one WINGer per department is selected each year. An additional WINGer may be selected for very large departments.

To accomplish the above objectives, WINGers engage in the following activities throughout the academic year to support their professional development:

  • Actively participate in the WINGS community by attending quarterly in-person workshops focused on wellness
  • Participate in quarterly WINGS-sponsored social gatherings supporting the H&S graduate student community
  • Share health and wellness resources with peers in their degree program
  • Propose and develop other WINGS-sponsored activities related to H&S graduate student wellness

Students selected to be a WINGer receive a $1,000 stipend in recognition of their voluntary participation in this professional development.
